Having worked at Weingut Rebholz, a top Riesling producer with some of the highest accolades in Pfalz, Germany, Diane was inspired by the terroir driven approach, where the grape variety is to express the unique combination of the soil and climate of the site.

Back in California, Diane was amazed by the immense variations of Californian terroir - in two neighboring vineyards, we can find volcanic and sandstone, two types of soil that excelled in the North and South of the Pfalz.

The Hibbard Ranch vineyard, where our Riesling comes from, is an old vine vineyard located in a cool location in Caneros where the bay breeze keeps the temperature cool. Additionally, our vineyard sits in the shade of Mount Veeder during the hot afternoon hours where sun exposure may be too damaging. The result is sufficient time for the Rieslings to develop complex flavors while retaining vivid acidity, allowing us to embrace our minimal intervention winemaking approach.
